Upper Room--Prayer Ministry

“If my people who are called by name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”  II Chronicles 7:14

God shapes the world by prayer.  The more praying there is in the world the better the world will be, the mightier the forces against evil.
E.M. Bounds

What Our Prayer Ministry Is All About

We envision a church where prayer is the priority for everything we do as a church.  A church where planning is secondary to praying.  A church where all, both young and old, are taught how to pray, the value of prayer and are given the opportunity to practice prayer.  We are told that we are to always pray, and we want to help everyone be obedient to the call to pray.

We envision a church where groups pray together for the salvation of the lost.  God desires that all should be saved, and we partner with Him by praying for those who do not yet know Jesus Christ in His saving power.

We envision a church where there is “room to pray”.  A room that is set aside for people to come and pray for God to move in our church and our city.  A place where we can agree with each other for the advancement of the kingdom of God in our lives, families and community.  A room where there is  vital up-to-date information to help guide our prayers and agreement.

We envision a church where all worship services are “prayed over” before the first person arrives for worship.  We desire the Holy Spirit to be present and active in our midst so that we can hear from God every time we enter His presence.

We envision a church where those who are sick may turn to the church for healing prayers.  There are times in everyone’s life when a healing touch of God is needed.  The  Scriptures tell us that those who are spiritually mature should gather  with those who are hurting, anoint them with oil and pray.  We believe this is not only for those who are physically sick, but also those who are suffering for any reason.

We envision a church where groups pray together for our church, pastor, leaders and ministries.  However, we pray not only for our local church, but also for The United Methodist Church, the churches in our city, and  around the world.  We are the body of Christ on earth, and we pray for our brothers and sisters wherever they may be in our world.

Lastly, we envision a church where we are lead by the Holy Spirit to pray at all times and in all places.  We want to truly be a house of prayer!

How You Can Participate

1.  Upper Room Prayer Center - On the north side of the sanctuary is a room that is especially designed and furnished for prayer.  You may sign-up to pray for an hour each week for the needs of the church, the world and your life.  This is the epicenter of all that the Holy Spirit wishes to do in our lives, our church and our world.

2.  Pre-Prayer for Worship - You are invited to come to the church on Saturday night or EARLY Sunday morning to pray over every aspect of our worship on Sunday morning.  Not only will you pray for the music, pastor, pianist, choir, Sunday School, but also for those who will be present in worship that they may receive a touch from God.

3.  Worship Cover - You are invited to volunteer to pray in the Upper Room while the worship services are in progress.  This is a means of “covering” the service in prayer.

4.  Healing Prayers - You are invited to be a part of a prayer team that prays for the sick and afflicted in our midst. We also have a Communion and Healing service on the second Sunday of each month.  This is held during our regular evening service at 7:00.

5.  Prayer Retreats - You are invited to be a part of a yearly prayer retreat.  At the retreat there will be instruction, worship and prayer.

6.  Prayer Training Ministries - You are invited to attend courses on different aspects and types of prayer.  The following is a list of possible subjects: intercession, corporate prayer, prayers for healing, and listening.

7.  Prayer Ushers - We will have people who have been  trained to pray with and for you available at the end of services each Sunday morning.  They will be stationed near the altar and available to pray with you.

We are excited about what God will  do in us and through us as we humble ourselves, pray and seek His face. We do not pray primarily so that God will move, but because we want to know Him!  However, we are looking forward to what He will do in our  midst when we connect with the power of the Eternal God.
